EES EU Live (04/2024) - The Digital Senators' Briefing
Video Live Talk with Dr. Ingo Friedrich, President of the European Economic Senate (EES), on current European topics.
"EU-Supply-Chain-Law or SMEs Facing the End? George Orwell (1984) sends his regards"
The revised version of the EU Supply Chain Directive (Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive CSDDD) is about to be adopted. What are its specific implications and how does it affect national supply chain legislation?
Businesses, and SMEs in particular, are called upon to familiarise themselves with the EU Supply Chain Directive (CSDDD). Because one thing must be clear to everyone: The CSDDD is just the beginning of a "toxic EU legislative package" that will entail serious changes and obligations. It would be more than naïve to believe that the EU supply chain law will only affect the "big players" and that we ourselves will be spared. After all, you always have to consider the indirect effects of laws.
The EU Supply Chain Act must therefore not be viewed in isolation, but rather in a wider context. It is about the taxonomy, Green Deal, Green Financing, ESG, obligations to collect and disclose data and reporting obligations with social ranking, to name just a few components of this legislative package. And let's not forget the restrictions on cash transactions on top of everything else. Whether consciously or unconsciously intended, this regulatory frenzy will ultimately lead to a controlled state!
Not only are we threatened with more and more bureaucracy, but also the creeping erosion of our democratic values of freedom. Europe's competitiveness is being weakened, the market economy undermined and the prosperity of us all jeopardised.
The European Economic Senate and its partner organisation, the Taxpayers Association of Europe (TAE), are staunch advocates of the European idea. That is why we feel obliged to raise our voice. As representatives of the European economy and civil society, we want to draw attention to impending undesirable developments and make an active contribution to stopping the regulations in their current form.
